My violins are inspired by the classic Cremonese examples of Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri DelGesu. I strive to interpret these forms in an informed but loose manner. It’s never been my goal to directly copy these works but rather use these successful platforms to communicate something of my own style.

My specialty is compact violas based on the Brescian model of Gaspar DaSalo. These instruments are designed to be dark and responsive sounding while being comfortable to shoulder and play.


I currently build three different models of cello– a Stradivari “Forma B” pattern, a small model inspired by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, and a design of my own inspired by the work of Gasparo DaSalo.  All three offer very different tonal possibilities.

I began my journey as a craftsman in 1995 at the age of 20 in the wood shop of the Air Force base where I was stationed. My earliest projects were tied to musical instruments of many kinds. While living in Baltimore, I found a mentor in Jazz musician Paul Wingo. With several years worth of Paul’s guidance and encouragement, I set off on my current path. I moved to Boston to attend the North Bennett Street School where I received a diploma in violin making and restoration. While there I began an apprenticeship with violin maker Jonathan Cooper in Portland, Maine. I continued to work with Jon full time from 2002 to 2005. I’ve attended the prestigious Violin Society of America (VSA) Oberlin Summer Workshops in 2004, 2006, and 2007 and became a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers (AFVBM) in 2008. Today I continue to make new instruments, take selective restoration projects and teach the craft of violin making. A life devoted to craftsmanship…
